How Can a Painful Lump In The Groin be Treated?

I am a 35 year old female with a lump in my groin area. Its been there for 4 days now and is about the size of a grape. There is no head. I have been applying warm moist compresses since yesterday and now it feels like it has flattened not as round anymore and slightly firm. The skin it very light pink. There is only discomfort if I push on it. Should I continue with the compresses as it is making it smaller? What happens if it pops under the skin without ever coming to a head? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it will be a swollen lymph node arising out of infection somewhere in the surrounding area. As a first line management, you can start a short course of antibiotics.

If persists better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
